Research & knowledge

Build knowledge. Make it usable.

A common research infrastructure connects rigorous methods, trusted people, publication review and institutional decisions across the centre portfolio.

Research model

From a question to usable institutional knowledge.

GRS Group treats research as a connected process: define the decision, examine the best available evidence, generate new data where appropriate, review quality and ethics, then translate findings into a form that institutions can use. The shared model is adapted to each centre’s discipline and each partner’s context.

Seven knowledge pillars

A research system, not a collection of reports.

Research insights

Focused questions, literature and evidence synthesis, applied studies and transparent interpretation.

Data & intelligence

Indicators, data definitions, benchmarks and careful comparison across institutions or settings.

Frameworks & guidance

Research-informed tools that help teams make consistent policy or operational decisions.

Publications

Reviewed reports, evidence and policy briefs, white papers and methodological notes.

Solutions & services

Commissioned research, evaluation and research-centre capability built around a defined need.

Experts & network

Researchers, reviewers, advisers and working groups brought together for relevant questions.

Institutional news

Updates about real projects, collaborations and outputs once confirmed and ready to announce.

Research lifecycle

A clear path with human review.

01 · Scope

Agree the question, intended users, deliverables, methods, timeline and roles before research begins.

02 · Review

Assess the scientific approach, ethics, data needs, conflicts of interest and any required permissions.

03 · Produce

Collect or synthesise evidence with documented methods, source management and appropriate quality checks.

04 · Interpret

Explain findings, uncertainty and limitations without overstating conclusions or causation.

05 · Publish

Complete editorial, authorship, intellectual-property and publication approval checks.

06 · Mobilise

Share findings with the relevant decision-makers and consider follow-up evaluation.

Data & indicators

Comparisons need context.

A useful indicator begins with a clear definition, a relevant source and an explanation of what it cannot measure. GRS centres may develop dashboards, indicator registers or comparative profiles where there is a legitimate purpose and suitable data. Personal or sensitive information requires safeguards proportionate to the research and applicable permissions.

Benchmarking is used to identify patterns and learning opportunities. It should not imply that institutions or communities are directly comparable when their mandates, populations or data quality differ.

Publications & open knowledge

Publish only completed, reviewed outputs.

The publication pathway can accommodate research reports, evidence briefs, policy briefs, foresight notes, comparative studies and guidance. Each output should make its authorship, date, methods, sources, limitations and reuse terms clear. Open repositories and persistent identifiers may be used when the material and rights permit them.

No unpublished study is listed as a completed GRS publication on this page. New releases will be linked here after review and public deposit.

Knowledge mobilisation

Evidence has to reach its users.

The intended audience shapes the output: a ministerial decision may need a concise policy brief; a research community may need a full methods report; an institution building capability may need a framework, workshop or implementation guide. Expert roundtables, webinars and partner dissemination can support interpretation and adoption.

Responsible digital research

Technology under human oversight.

Digital tools and AI may support discovery, analysis and knowledge management, but a qualified person remains responsible for methods, source checks, confidentiality and final conclusions. Use of tools is assessed against data sensitivity, reliability and the purpose of the research.
