Mandate & purpose

Why this centre matters.

Examine interconnected water, food and resource systems under changing social and environmental pressures. The Global Water & Food Security Research Center is a developing centre concept within GRS Group. Its purpose is to connect credible research on water and food systems with the decisions, institutions and communities that can use it.

Portfolio status: In development. This describes the centre’s research direction and does not claim a staffed programme or completed projects.

Research agenda

Priority questions to investigate.

Question 01

How do water and food risks interact across communities and institutions?

Question 02

Which resource indicators support early action and resilience planning?

Question 03

What cross-sector approaches can improve access and system continuity?

Thematic scope

Seven interconnected domains.

The themes below provide a starting scope. Individual studies would narrow their questions, populations, geography and methods in a written project brief.

  • Water security
  • Food systems
  • Resource resilience
  • Agricultural innovation
  • Access and equity
  • Risk indicators
  • Cross-border systems

Evidence programme

How the centre would work.

Map the evidence

Comparative analysis of water and food resilience, risks and institutional responses. The first step is to establish what is known, where evidence is weak and which decisions require better information.

Build meaningful indicators

Identify data sources, definitions and limitations relevant to water and food systems. Any comparison should account for local context and avoid unsupported rankings.

Translate into action

Co-develop practical options with universities, resource organisations and policy networks; specify who can act, what resources are needed and how outcomes could be reviewed.

Knowledge products

Outputs matched to the question.

Depending on a project’s scope and review requirements, possible outputs include evidence briefs, comparative studies, indicator notes, policy briefs, institutional guidance and research reports. Outputs are added to the publications section only after completion and approval.

Partnership & participation

Build the agenda with relevant institutions.

Potential collaborators include universities, resource organisations and policy networks. Partnership proposals can focus on a defined evidence gap, a comparative study, a joint publication or a practical research system. Researchers and reviewers can register their interest through the central GRS network.

Governance & quality

One shared standard of care.

A project would be scoped, scientifically reviewed and assessed for ethics, data protection, conflicts of interest and publication quality before external release. Sensitive, human-participant or sector-specific work requires safeguards and permissions suited to the study.

Governance and institutional trust
